250GP ACU National Championship – the rest is history – or is it..?

NG Road Racing took over the running of the 250GP National Championship following discussions with the Auto Cycle Union at the end of the 2007 season. The ACU were ready to drop the 250’s from their Superclub Championships following announcements at world level, that Moto2 was to replace the 250GP category from 2010. We realised that if we removed many of the controls on testing, fuel, control tyres etc, set clear expectations from the outset, NG could become the new home of 250GP 2 stroke championship racing in the UK.  Being huge 250GP fans, it was a “no brainer”. So 2008 was our first year of running the series. Payback was so sweet, as over 90 riders registered their interest in the series in that first year. Grids often topped 40 machines!

The 250GP Cup provides an opportunity for older machines and/or riders on Clubman licenses to challenge for a sub-championship.  Cup contenders still collect National Championship points as well, depending on where they finish “on-the-road”.

More recently, we have added the 125GP ACU National Championship to the grid.  Dropped from British Championship (MotoStar) in favour of Moto3 at the end of 2015, we got the ok to include 125GP as an ACU titled National championship, which sits nicely in with the 250GP on-track. We know there are literally 100’s of 125GP’s out there, so we are keen to continue to provide a home for the 125GP prototypes, with a full-on National Championship.

While many machines are being retired off to glass cases in collectors living rooms, there are still plenty out there to be raced, and the 125 / 250GP ACU National Championships are the place to do it!
